Omnicare to Employ Merge Clinical Trial Imaging Application — Featuring Intrinsic Imaging
Omnicare Clinical Research partners with Merge, AG Mednet and Intrinsic Imaging to build a complete virtual imaging core lab solution.
May 9, 2011 — As part of its solution for image management of oncology, cardiology and ophthalmology clinical trials, Omnicare Clinical Research — a contract research organization and a subsidiary of Omnicare, Inc. — will use Merge Healthcare's Clinical Imaging Management System (CIMS). Omnicare has long been a user of EDC, Merge's clinical trial workflow application.
Omnicare will employ CIMS and EDC for an upcoming study to be conducted by a pharmaceutical company that will specialize in molecular diagnostics for oncology research. This global colorectal cancer trial will collect and review 2,750 exams from 550 patients at 40 sites over five years.
Omnicare also plans to use AG Mednet's image transfer technology and Intrinsic Imaging's radiology expertise to build a complete virtual imaging core lab solution. Merge CIMS will automate the workflow of image submission, image storage in a DICOM archive, and image review and analysis. All of this, it is claimed, will improve efficiency, reduce cost, and allow integration of the imaging component with any EDC system to increase the transparency of data in clinical trials.
