Musculoskeletal Division — MSK Imaging Core Lab
Intrinsic Imaging's Musculoskeletal Division provides specialized imaging expertise and centralized independent review services for clinical trials evaluating disorders of the bones, joints, muscles, connective tissues, and spine. Supported by a network of more than 100 board-certified and fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologists, the Division combines deep subspecialty expertise with rigorous, standardized imaging methodologies designed to generate objective, reproducible, and clinically meaningful data across multicenter and global clinical trials. Our experience spans a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and inflammatory arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, bone healing and repair, cartilage disorders, orthopedic implants, and other degenerative, inflammatory, metabolic, neuromuscular, and structural diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system.
The Musculoskeletal Division supports an extensive range of imaging technologies, including radiography, CT and quantitative CT (QCT), DXA, conventional and advanced MRI, kinetic MRI, metal artifact reduction imaging, nuclear imaging, and ultrasound. Intrinsic Imaging has extensive experience implementing established and study-specific musculoskeletal scoring systems and quantitative methodologies to assess endpoints such as joint-space width, cartilage thickness and volume, bone mineral density, structural progression, inflammation, bone healing, implant performance, and spinal motion and kinetics. Our specialists work closely with sponsors from protocol development and imaging charter design through site qualification, acquisition standardization, image quality control, reader training and qualification, centralized independent review, adjudication, quantitative analysis, and regulatory-ready data delivery. Particular emphasis is placed on controlling variability across imaging sites, equipment, readers, and longitudinal timepoints—providing the consistency and methodological rigor necessary to detect subtle structural and functional changes and reliably characterize disease progression and therapeutic response in complex musculoskeletal clinical trials.

MSK Imaging Endpoints and Scoring Systems
Our musculoskeletal imaging core lab implements established and study-specific scoring systems and quantitative methods for endpoints such as joint-space width, cartilage thickness and volume, bone mineral density, structural progression, inflammation, bone healing, implant performance, and spinal motion and kinetics.
DXA, Quantitative CT and Advanced MRI
We read radiography, CT and quantitative CT (QCT), DXA, conventional and kinetic MRI, metal artifact reduction (MARS) imaging, nuclear imaging, and ultrasound for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and inflammatory arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoporosis, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, and orthopedic implant trials.
Reader Calibration and Independent Central Review
Reader training and qualification, centralized quality control, and blinded independent central review with adjudication help deliver predictable, reproducible MSK data across sites and timepoints.
